in your retreat
i withdrew
uncertain
what you gave
because you loved it
and what you gave
because you loved me
suddenly adrift
i knew not
what was me
what was mine
what was you
and what now
belongs to someone new
i couldn't write
the words we whispered
couldn't paint the colors
only we had seen
i dared not wear
our fragrance
wasn't sure
if i could claim to be
the things you showed me
that i am
but now
as time has settled things
as only time can do
i've come to see
the gifts you gave to me
the gift you were to me
and all of who we were
are part of who i am
and now
while you no longer share
in who i am
and i no longer seek
to be myself in you
i've come to see
i'm more of who i am
for having been
the one i was
when i was
the one i was
with you

I very much appreciated your poem. It was cleverly crafted with a lesson learned of life and love that holds so much truth if seen with eyes wide open.
beautiful words from a beautiful woman. this line i like most:
"i've come to see
i'm more of who i am
for having been
the one i was
when i was
the one i was
with you"
you play with the words and twist them to your liking as if they in themselves were not bound to their own rules. and when it is done, we can but stand in admiration. keep it up dear! *hugs*
I agree with cargwaps. You play with and bend words in a way that is at once ethereal and other-wordly, yet at the same time tangible and personal. I think you talent is taking ethereal, often difficult define, emotions and making them accessible to all without blunting their complexity or delicacy.
